Jorge Martin won the MotoGP Sprint of the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring after Pedro Acosta crashed out from first place with three laps to go.
Acosta took the lead into the first hairpin after Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin had a hard-fought battle into the first chicane on the opening lap, allowing the Spaniard to build a considerable gap to the championship contenders. However, with three laps to go, he crashed at Turn 2 and finished outside the points as a result.
That gifted the victory to Martin, who lost several positions after going wide following his Lap 1 incident with Marquez. However, the Aprilia rider had stunning pace and was once again ahead of his championship rival, Marc Marquez, by Lap 8. Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium today.
As a result, in terms of the championship battle, Martin now leads Marquez by 3 points in the standings. Bezzecchi is 38 points behind the 2024 world champion.
