Perez disappointed in lack of restart: "A bit of a shame"

Sergio Perez was one of many drivers trying to climb through the field after picking up a penalty. The Mexican started to advance through the field but a flat spot meant that he had to pit early for hard tyres.

Points for Perez

With ten laps to go, Perez had fresh tyres to try and attack the drivers ahead. Perhaps P5 was possible for the Red Bull driver, but the safety car ended those hopes. In a conversation with Sky Sports, Perez summarised his race. "It was a mess."

"We had to box early, then on the hards I had to lift and coast to bring them back to temperature otherwise we'd have to retire. I spent a few laps with the brake discs on fire," he added.

Daniel Ricciardo stopped out on the circuit in the final few laps. This caused a late safety car and the track crew couldn't recover the car quick enough to allow one lap without the safety car. Perez was frustrated that this lap didn't happen.

"I had a better tyre than Lewis so it would've been better to do the restart but it wasn't the case. I don't know what happened, they took a long time to recover Daniel in the end, a bit of a shame but it is what it is," Perez added.
