Verstappen thinks FIA is overreacting: 'It's gone a bit over the top'

The FIA recently announced that it would come up with rule changes in 2023, in order to further curb the problems with porpoising. Max Verstappen thinks that the governing body is going a bit too far in this respect, as most teams have already solved the problem themselves.

From Spa-Francorchamps onwards, a number of measures are already being introduced to combat porpoising, but next year the FIA will go even further by imposing floor changes on Formula 1 teams. As far as Verstappen is concerned, that is a bit 'over the top'. That is what he says in conversation with Autosport.com.

The championship leader refers to the fact that Mercedes, who were a driving force behind the FIA's action, had better control of the phenomenon in recent races and so do not seem to need much more help. "I think a little bit it's gone a bit over the top with these changes," said Verstappen, who saw most teams getting the problem under control. "Also the teams who actually asked for it had it much more under control."

It was previously suggested that Red Bull Racing and Ferrari were pushing the limits of the rules in terms of floor flexibility, and so the measures taken by the FIA from the Belgian Grand Prix onwards would hurt the front-runners the most. Verstappen denies that and doesn't think his team will suffer much.
