Heavy rain forecast for Sunday race at Czech Grand Prix in Brno

This weekend's MotoGP Czech Grand Prix in Brno could throw in yet another twist to the already-intriguing championship battle as heavy rain is forecast during Sunday's race.
While the weather looks clear for all of Friday and Saturday, a deluge of heavy rain could potentially hit the circuit just as the bikes line up on the starting grid at around 14:00 local time.
So far, the only real wet-weather drama in MotoGP this year occured in the Jerez sprint race when a sudden downpour caused several riders to crash. One of the first to go down was Marc Marquez, and in typical fashion, he remounted to go on and win the race. However, there was some controversy over how he entered the pit lane and crossed over the entrance line, leading to an entirely new rule change being written just to prevent a repeat from occurring.
Marquez has previously won five times at the Brno Circuit throughout his career with the most recent being last year's 1-1 domination where he secured victory in both the sprint and the main race. Other previous winners at the circuit include Brad Binder (2020) and Cal Crutchlow (2016), who continues to stand-in for the injured Johann Zarco.

Wet Weather Winners in Brno

After taking a spectacular pole position on slicks in wet conditions, Marc Marquez went on to win the 2019 race in dominant fashion, though the track was considerably drier on race day than it had been during qualifying. The qualifying lap is considered one of his all-time best pole positions, which is really saying something when it comes to Marquez.
In 2016, British MotoGP legend Cal Crutchlow pulled off an impossible victory in mixed weather conditions, going from 15th at the end of the opening lap all the way up to first. While most of the grid had opted for wet weather tyres, Crutchlow took the gamble of going for slicks from the very start. As the track gradually dried throughout the course of the race, the slicks became the better tyre to be on and Crutchlow stormed to the front, passing the likes of Marquez, Rossi, Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa along the way.
