Follow the first practice session of the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix below. We now enter the ninth round of the 2025 Formula 1 season, and the first session of the weekend is just about to get underway at the sunny Barcelona track.
The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix marks the end of an era, as it will be the final time the race carries the "Spanish GP" title in Barcelona. From 2026, that honour shifts to Madrid, which joins the Formula 1 calendar as the new host of the Spanish Grand Prix.
However, Barcelona isn't disappearing just yet — the historic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will remain part of the schedule at least until 2026. Beyond that, discussions are ongoing about its future presence in the sport, making this weekend a significant moment for Spanish motorsport fans.

Last stop of the triple header

The Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona marks the final stop of this European triple-header for the 2025 Formula 1 season. Following visits to Imola and Monaco, the paddock wraps up its continental run before heading into a short break. The next stop on the calendar will take teams across the Atlantic for the Canadian Grand Prix in a few weeks’ time.
Last time out in 2024 it was Verstappen who took the top step in Barcelona, despite Norris taking pole position that weekend. The Dutchman will be aiming to repeat that success at the circuit where he claimed his maiden F1 victory, with both McLaren drivers currently ahead of him in the championship standings.

Championship standings heading into Barcelona

Despite Norris taking the win last round in Monaco, he sits currently in P2 only 3 points behind his teammate Piastri who tops the standings.
Verstappen trails by just over 20 points, while the Mercedes and Ferrari drivers will be aiming to climb the standings as they battle it out behind the leading pack.
