Everything is set for the first night race weekend of the season, although the lights of Marina Bay will only come on later in the day, with the opening practice session taking place in daylight. Follow FP1 of the Singapore Grand Prix LIVE with GPblog!
Formula 1 arrives in Singapore following a chaotic Bahrain Grand Prix, which saw Max Verstappen claim his first victory of the 2026 season at Sepang. The Dutchman finally ended his winless run after a chaotic race heavily influenced by the weather, with torrential rain delaying the start and a software issue causing further confusion during the formation procedure.
Once racing got underway, Verstappen fought his way past the Mercedes drivers to take control of proceedings, navigating multiple Safety Car interruptions and changing track conditions to secure a crucial victory for Red Bull. The result also marked the first-ever Formula 1 win for the Red Bull Ford power unit project, representing a significant milestone for the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
Mercedes, meanwhile, left Malaysia with mixed feelings despite another impressive performance from Kimi Antonelli. The Italian crossed the line in second place after another strong showing, further strengthening his position in the championship. However, the same could not be said for George Russell, whose race ended in disappointment after a power unit issue forced him into retirement during the closing stages.

The Briton now faces another difficult weekend in Singapore, with a grid penalty already confirmed and the prospect of a further engine-related penalty before the end of the season. With Antonelli extending his advantage over his teammate to 84 points, the contrast between the two Mercedes drivers continues to grow as the championship enters its final stretch.
Ferrari also experienced a rollercoaster afternoon at Sepang, with Lewis Hamilton eventually securing the final spot on the podium after overtaking Isack Hadjar. The seven-time world champion recovered from a difficult opening phase, during which Ferrari's decision to start on soft tyres proved costly as conditions evolved.
Nevertheless, the Scuderia arrives in Singapore hoping to build on the positives from Malaysia, particularly Hamilton's podium finish. The Briton also defended his team against criticism of its strategic decisions, arguing that Ferrari often faces harsher scrutiny than its rivals even when they make similar mistakes.
Attention now turns to the Marina Bay Street Circuit, where the unique demands of Singapore present a very different challenge from those encountered at Sepang. Red Bull will be hoping to carry its newfound momentum into a venue where Verstappen is still chasing his maiden victory, although the Dutchman has acknowledged that bumps and kerbs remain areas of weakness for his car.
McLaren will also be looking to respond after a difficult Malaysian weekend, while Mercedes and Ferrari aim to establish themselves at the front of the field. The opening practice session will offer the first indication of the competitive order, although FP1 takes place in daylight before the floodlights illuminate Marina Bay for the remainder of the evening action.
