Leclerc aiming for special milestone
Saturdays in Baku have been dominated by Charles Leclerc for many years, going back to his first pole position that he took around the streets of Baku in 2019. Now, coming into 2025, the Monegasque will be searching for a fifth consecutive P1 finish at the Baku City Circuit.
There will be a buoyed sense of optimism throughout the
Ferrari garage after a fine showing of pace in FP2, with
Lewis Hamilton topping the session ahead of Leclerc to give the Scuderia a one-two finish and throw themselves into the mix for success.
For McLaren, it was a day full of ups and downs, unable to find the consistency that has been present throughout the 2025 season
as they look to seal the constructors' championship this weekend.
A one-two finish in FP1 for the papaya-coloured team was then backed up by a P10 for
Lando Norris and a P12 for
Oscar Piastri, with Norris finishing prematurely on Friday due to suspension damage after hitting the wall.
And, of course,
Max Verstappen can never be ruled out, especially after the Dutchman's dominant weekend in Monza, taking pole position and the race win.
