Max Verstappen had to settle for second place in the Eifel Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver couldn't beat Lewis Hamilton's despite being closer than in recent races. The 23-year old Dutchman was given an extra opportunity after a safety car, but couldn't take advantage.
"In general it was a good race," Verstappen tells David Coulthard. In conversation with the former Formula 1 driver, the Dutchman indicates that he tried to keep pace with Hamiton, but that he wasn't quite quick enough. "They were a bit too fast, but in the last lap I just went to see what would happen. That fastest lap gave me another extra World Championship point, so I'm very happy with that."

Frustrated by Safety Car

Verstappen complained about the safety car, which caused the temperature in the tyres to drop considerably. "I don't understand why the safety car had to stay out for so long. It is quite dangerous with these cars when the tyres are so cold. We'll go in at a later time," he says.
After the weekend in Germany, Verstappen closes in on Valtteri Bottas for P2 in the championship. "We came second and that's where we were supposed to be today, that's the most important thing," Verstappen added.
