Update | No second pole for Cassidy after grid penalty

Sergio Sette Camara set the fastest time of his group in qualifying by going around the track in 1:09.566. Nyck de Vries also managed to qualify for the quarter-finals. He is just over a tenth slower than Sette Camara and qualifies as number three of Group A for the last eight. For Robin Frijns, the curtain falls in the first qualifying session. He finished sixth and will not advance to the knock-out phase. Cassidy and Alexander Sims are among the top-four.

Moments later it is the turn of Group B. Mitch Evans drives a 1:09:371 and is thus considerably faster than Sette Camara over fifteen minutes earlier. A very good time, even though there was a little more rubber on the track which speaks in favour of the Jaguar TCS Racing-driver. Antonio Felix da Costa, Stoffel Vandoorne and Andre Lotterer are the other names we will see later on. Lucas di Grassi saw his time taken away, dropping from P1 to P10 in his group.

Lotterer will take on Sette Camara in the first quarter-final. The German surprisingly wins the duel with a lead of one tenth. Cassidy wins against Vandoorne and is the second to advance to the semifinals. The other two semi-finalists are Felix da Costa (who beats De Vries by one and a half tenths) and Sims (who beats Evans).

In the end it is Cassidy, Frijns' team mate, and Da Costa who battle it out to decide who can start from pole position later on Sunday. Da Costa will have to defend his first position from 19:00hrs.

Nick Cassidy will not be able to start from pole position in the second E-Prix of this weekend. Almost half an hour after the end of qualifying it was announced that the New-Zealander had to replace his battery after his incident on Saturday. That means a thirty place grid penalty and so he will start from the back. Da Costa takes over the pole position.
