At Circuit Zandvoort, some 20 women reported unwanted behaviour during the Netherlands Grand Prix weekend and certain misbehaviour also took place at Monza last weekend at Formula 1. In a statement, the circuit said it would launch an investigation.
Last weekend, images were already surfacing on social media where Italian fans were not very friendly to Verstappen fans, to say the least, and there were also proclamations directed at Verstappen's family. The atmosphere was not always nice and they also got wind of it at Monza.
Through its own channels, they write: "Autodromo Nazionale Monza expresses its regret for the discomfort of those who, among the many fans who flocked to the last Italian GP, would have encountered certain in conveniences. The structure and its people have lavished their best efforts to realise an event that exceeded all attendance records, going beyond all estimated forecasts."
"For Autodromo Nazionale Monza the fans' experience is a priority and for this reason a rigorous verification has been initiated also with the partners to ascertain and investigate the origin of any criticalities and take consequent measures so that this does not happen again in the future."
Verstappen was interviewed after his victory in the Italian GP prior to the podium ceremony and Italian fans seized that moment to firmly boo the Red Bull Racing driver. Charles Leclerc jumped into the breach for Verstappen, who himself said he did not care much. By the way, according to Mattia Binotto, the whistle was not directed at Verstappen, but at the FIA for not facilitating a restart.
