At Mercedes they had a good start of the weekend at Zandvoort. George Russell set a 1:12.455, a time nobody could match in the first free practice. Lewis Hamilton gave just over two tenths on his teammate's time. Carlos Sainz is on P3.
Surprisingly, behind them we see the two McLarens of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo. They were (perhaps somewhat surprisingly) faster than Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. It remains only a FP1, however, but it seems that Red Bull Racing will at least not be as dominant as in Belgium last week.
Max Verstappen is in nineteenth and penultimate place. He only drove seven laps due to gearbox problems.
