Three racetracks have received a contract extension from Formula 1 in a short period of time, which will put them on the F1 calendar for an extra year. These are Monza, Spa-Francorchamps and the Hungaroring.

Ghost races

Ross Brawn, sports director of Formula 1, announces that the tracks have been given an extra year on their current contracts, because the circuits have to organize a race where no spectators will be present. This is a consequence of the coronavirus.
The three circuits have given an agreement to hold so-called 'ghost races'. They do not have to pay the full entry fee for this, but also lack income from ticket sales. According to Brawn, not all promoters can be supported financially, but in other ways.

Stability

"So how we arrive at the agreements for the next few years, in some cases some circuits have extended their contract by a year because they’ve lost this year. That gives them that stability", said Ross Brawn to RaceFans.net.
