The coming weeks are crucial for the future of Max Verstappen at Red Bull. If the Austrian race team wants to be one hundred percent sure that their key asset is still on board in 2026, Verstappen wants to see progress in technical and sporting aspects in the coming weeks. But is that realistic?
While a fifth world title for Verstappen seems far out of sight, Red Bull Racing has apparently not given up hope on a huge stunt. For the British Grand Prix, the team has made some adjustments to the RB21, hoping to extract more performance from the car. This time, the focus is on the floor - just like a week ago in Austria.
Meanwhile, McLaren is also making a number of adjustments. If Red Bull actually wants to make forward strides on the grid, then its own updates need to work very well, while those of McLaren need to be failures. It thus seems unrealistic to think that Red Bull can bridge the gap with McLaren in the coming time.

Verstappen does not count on it, but he does want to see that his team has got back on the right track. That is where the Dutchman might draw the confidence to stay where he is in 2026. If things become even worse than they are now performance-wise, then that is a signal that it might be better to think about leaving - although it should not be forgotten that he prefers to stay at Red Bull.

Red Bull is at crossroads

On the other hand, it must be said; there is not much time left to further develop the RB21. Previously, external advisor Helmut Marko mentioned that possibly around the Belgian Grand Prix the season would have to be written off and full focus placed on 2026. F1 will be hosted at the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps is just in two weeks time...
Only if now a huge step forward can be made and Red Bull unexpectedly can compete with McLaren - and possibly the world title for Verstappen becomes an option - the Austrians might continue with the development of the RB21 to some extent.
In short, the updates introduced in Silverstone might just turn out to be decisive; for the season of Red Bull Racing and Verstappen, and for both their futures.
