Charles Leclerc managed to top the final free practice session ahead of qualifying later today. Oscar Piastri finished in second place just behind the Monegasque driver, while Max Verstappen rounded off the Top 3. The
Ferrari driver's fastest lap time was a 1:25.498. Finishing in P4,
Lando Norris was only a tenth behind him. Hamilton set the 11th fastest time, however, a late red flag prevented him from completing a competitive lap towards the end of the session.
As it happened
The final free practice session of the weekend got underway five minutes late, as the marshals were (possibly) cleaning up some marbles left behind by classic cars.
Drivers were not too eager to sit in their cars, as many waited even longer than the five-minute delay to fasten their seatbelts.
The first cars to appear on track were to two Alpines, and they were followed by the two Aston Martin drivers who prepared tyres for Sunday. The fifth driver to appear inside the first 10 minutes was
Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari,
who topped FP1 on Friday.
Over the next 10 minutes, more drivers entered the track. With 40 minutes to go, Charles Leclerc led the session with a 1:26.4, being only marginally quicker than Verstappen and Hamilton's first lap time.
Lap times continued to improve with 20 minutes to go. Leclerc still had the fastest lap time, but he was in P1 with a 1:25.9, ahead of Russell and Verstappen.
The McLarens first showed their strength only minutes later, as Piastri jumped to the top of the scoreboard with a 1:25.5, being only 0.040 seconds quicker than his teammate, Norris.
Liam Lawson was also be investigated for driving erratically, and the New Zealander then received a black-and-white flag. Lawson was annoyed by Pierre Gasly, and drove slowly alongside him from Turn 7 to 8, with then went down his inside in Copse.
Entering the final 10 minutes, lap times continued to improve further with Leclerc taking the lead from Piastri. On the other hand, Hamilton could not complete his quick lap, as the session was red flagged for Oliver Bearman's Haas loosing some bodywork in Stowe.
The sessions resumed with four minutes to go. On his final attempt, it was hard to improve, as first George Russell locked up, and then Gabriel Bortoleto got stuck in the gravel trap after losing control over his Sauber into Maggotts with a minute to go. Moreover, Bearman also hit the wall entering the pit lane, losing his front wing as a result.
