Lewis Hamilton topped the first session of the weekend at the Silverstone Circuit. Lando Norris finished in second place, while Oscar Piastri rounded off the Top 3. At the circuit he has already won on nine occasions and also the previous season, Lewis Hamilton kicked off his weekend strong, topping the first session of the
British Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion was marginally quicker than Norris, as his lap time was only 0.023 seconds quicker.
Hamilton's teammate,
Charles Leclerc finished in P4 ahead of the lead Mercedes,
George Russell.
Max Verstappen once again reported issues with the RB21 over his team radio, and set the 10th fastest time of these 60 minutes. Making his FP1 debut,
Arvid Lindblad finished in P14, replacing Yuki Tsunoda this afternoon.
Paul Aron also completed his first FP1 session, with the Estonian setting the 17th quickest time today.
As it happened
Drivers and teams wasted no time to get out on track immediately after the lights turned green at the British circuit.
Rookie Arvid Lindblad was already involved in a small impeding incident of Liam Lawson into Stowe, as the New Zealander recommended him to 'check his mirrors'. Ten minutes later, Pierre Gasly also did a 360 exciting Copse.
20 minutes into the sessions, with everyone other than the Williams completing their fastest laps on the mediums, Russell led the session with a 1:27.702 ahead of the two McLarens, in the order of Piastri and Norris. However, soon after, Isack Hadjar took the lead with a 1:27.5, being marginally quicker than Leclerc.
At the halfway point of the session, the first drivers began putting on the soft tyres, including Verstappen and Lindblad.

With approximately 20 minutes to go after the first attempts on the soft tyres and a big traffic jam moment around Copse, it was last year's winner, Hamilton, who lead the session with a 1:26.8 ahead of Norris and Piastri. The Top 3 did not change afterwards.
