FIA takes measures in Las Vegas to prevent further disruptions

FP2 in Las Vegas was neutralised near the 20 minute mark, and the FIA has acted to ensure no further disruptions of the same nature strike again.
"All other manhole covers on or close to the racing line were reinspected overnight, and additional welding was applied to a further 14 manhole assemblies."

Friday in Vegas saw a number of incidents with drivers going off the circuit or having brushes with wall given the slippery and dusty track surface and the cold Nevada desert temperatures.
However, as the field prepared for the qualifying simulations in FP2, an incided would require the running to be neutralised prompting the red flag to wave, requiring all the cars to return to the pits.
The reason was a loose manhole cover, which gave the Las Vegas GP organisation and Formula 1 a large headache in the first edition of the race in 2023.
To prevent further neautralisations of any sessions due to this matter, the FIA revealed it had taken appropriate action to fix the problematic manhole cover as well as do necessary checks on the rest.
"The manhole that prompted the red flag in FP2 was disassembled and further inspected," an FIA spokepoerson said.
"A specific fault was found with the closure mechanism, and it was possible address this issue overnight.
"In addition to the work conductted to address the issue identified, the cover of this manhole has been welded to provide further mitigation.
"All other manhole covers on or close to the racing line were reinspected overnight, and additional welding was applied to a further 14 manhole assemblies."
