Formula 2 has announced that it will add race weekends at the Miami and Canadian Grands Prix to its calendar for the 2026 season. The two events will host the second and third rounds of the calendar, respectively, bringing the junior formula to North America for the first time.
After the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix were cancelled due to the conflict in the Middle East,
GPblog understood that Miami and Montreal were lined up in March as venues to fill in the gaps in the schedule, stopping a potential three-month gap in the F2 season.
The Formula 2 Championship will travel to Miami from May 1 to 3 for the second round of the 2026 season, followed by Montreal from May 22 to 24 for round three. After that, the championship reverts to its original calendar, returning to Europe for the Monaco Grand Prix weekend from June 4 to 7.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the announcement of the alternative race weekends: “Although it has not been possible to hold the two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia this month, we look forward to returning to our passionate fans there as soon as possible.
"It is great news for our fans, the drivers, and the teams that Formula 2 will race in Miami and Montreal. Bruno and the entire F2 family have done an excellent job by working closely with us, the FIA, and the organisers in Miami and Montreal to ensure we keep the gap in this season’s calendar as small as possible.
"I want to thank them for making this possible. It will be fantastic to resume racing in a few weeks and to have F2 alongside Formula 1 when we return to the United States for the first time this season."

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: “The fact that the championship is coming to North America for the first time via Miami and Montreal is an important step in further global growth. It strengthens the pathway to Formula 1 and connects with new audiences. I would like to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to make these races possible.
"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the ongoing events in the Middle East, and we hope for a swift return to stability. We look forward to racing again in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia very soon,” said Ben Sulayem.
Bruno Michel, CEO of F2, was also pleased with the new race weekends coming to F2: "We always enjoy racing in Sakhir and Jeddah, and we wish them the best. We look forward to returning as soon as circumstances allow. For now, we are heading to Miami and Montreal for the second and third rounds of the 2026 season, respectively.
"I want to thank Stefano Domenicali and Formula 1 for their support in making this possible, as well as the FIA, the organisers of the Miami and Canadian Grands Prix, and, of course, my team, which has worked hard to set up two new rounds in a short time.”
