McLaren have officially announced that they will sign Gianpiero Lambiase for the 2028 season from Red Bull when the British-Italian engineer leaves the Austrian team. Lambiase will join as the Chief Racing Officer at the British team, becoming one of its senior figures after
Red Bull officially announced his departure.
In a press release, the British team said: "McLaren Racing is pleased to announce that GianPiero Lambiase will join the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team as Chief Racing Officer, reporting into Team Principal, Andrea Stella. "The role of the Chief Racing Officer already exists within the team’s structure with overall leadership of the race team. These duties are currently managed by Andrea Stella in addition to his role as Team Principal.
"Lambiase is the latest hire designed to strengthen and support the talent pool that exists at McLaren Mastercard, while also reaffirming the team’s long-term commitment to confirming its position as a Championship-winning team."

GPblog understood that a senior role would be given to Lambiase when joining McLaren,
but the British team denied that he would replace Andrea Stella as team principal.
There will still be questions surrounding Stella and his future at McLaren, and
GPblog analysed the potential move that could see the Italian return to Ferrari.
For Red Bull, Lambiase's departure marks yet another key figure leaving the Austrian team,
a trend that has now become a worrying sign.
