F1 Social Check: Mercedes explain why testing is extra busy in 2020

Winter testing has finally started. After a winter shutdown, the cars are out of hibernation and circulating Barcelona. Formula 1 teams and drivers are giving us updates as they start to record data.

A busy pre-season

In preparation for 22 Grands Prix, the number of test days in Barcelona have been reduced. This year, drivers and teams will get just six days to record all the data and make various different changes to the car. Mercedes explain why it's a little bit busier.

Williams first out

Williams are looking to bounce back from being parked at the back of the grid for two years. To start on the front foot, they sent out George Russell before the track went green to ensure he would be first on the track. The team were so proud, they recorded it for social media. During the morning session, Russell finished sixth and recorded a faster time than his qualifying lap at the same venue last season.
