The weekend at Silverstone painfully exposed the issues plaguing Red Bull Racing. After suffering yet more rear wing problems, Max Verstappen was forced to retire from the race. However, the team's troubles may run even deeper, with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reporting that frustrations are mounting behind the scenes.
In 2028, Gianpiero Lambiase is set to leave Red Bull for McLaren. The engineer has worked alongside Verstappen since the Dutchman arrived at Red Bull, but that successful partnership is now nearing its end. According to the outlet, there is a growing feeling within the team that an era is coming to a close, with Lambiase reportedly being "shut out" behind the scenes.

‘Waché isn’t sharing everything with Lambiase’

“Lambiase will leave for McLaren no later than 2028, and the question is how long he will continue to work for Red Bull. Lambiase is not only Verstappen’s right-hand man but also Head of Racing. Technical director Pierre Waché no longer shares everything with the Brit, because, in time, he could of course pass on confidential information to his future employer. It’s not a truly healthy situation,” the report reads.

Verstappen furious after the British GP at Silverstone

Verstappen's retirement at Silverstone has only widened the Dutchman's championship deficit. As a result, he could potentially activate a special clause in his contract that would allow him to leave for another team if he is not in second place in the drivers' standings by the summer break. That scenario now appears impossible, with Verstappen trailing by 78 points and second place seemingly out of reach

The four-time world champion said he would have preferred to start from the pits, referring to his Red Bull’s problems. “I would really have liked to start from the pit lane, because in the race it’s just the same problem again and again. I said: ‘Then we’ll just see it happen again in the race.’ And that’s exactly what happened again.”
The Dutchman himself has had enough for the moment, he said after the race. He was asked about the next race, but was clear. “I don’t want anything to do with it right now.”
