McLaren may have briefly been under the illusion of victory in the British Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon. In the end, the team had to acknowledge its superiority to Max Verstappen, who was almost four seconds ahead of Lando Norris at the line. This distorted a little, as the safety car was there in the closing stages, causing the championship leader's wide lead to disappear like snow in the sun.
For Zak Brown, McLaren's CEO, the marginal lead was the sign that other teams are creeping closer and closer to Red Bull Racing. "Max is getting less further ahead," he told GPblog and others. "It shows how healthy the sport is. We are now coming in each weekend and there’s someone at the front you weren’t expecting. I think the racing is going to be fantastic."

McLaren had difficult start to season

McLaren on the podium, after a poor start to the season, the start of the revival seems set. "I think it’s early to be that bold. We’re back in the game. I am sure tracks will suit different cars in different ways. As far we know, someone might do that [make a jump] the next race."

Still, there was certainly joy at the performance of Norris and also Oscar Piastri. "Today was a good day at the office. Oscar and Lando drove great. Tyre strategy turned out to be the right one, that was a nailbiter!"
