F1 Academy Managing Director Susie Wolff has offered a pointed take on Christian Horner’s public image, suggesting the former Red Bull boss was “playing a character” throughout his time in Formula 1.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Wolff reflected on Horner’s turbulent exit from Red Bull and the controversy that surrounded him in 2024.
Allegations of inappropriate behaviour, which he denied and was later cleared of, overshadowed the end of his two-decade reign. Red Bull dismissed him after the British Grand Prix, appointing Laurent Mekies as his successor.
Wolff acknowledged Horner’s support for F1 Academy but said the saga tarnished the sport’s image and distracted from its progress.

She said: “Christian was supportive of F1 Academy and for that I’ll always be grateful."
"It was a real shame for the sport – the whole drama that was created with the allegations. We were getting so much positive momentum with F1 Academy, and suddenly everyone wanted to interview me about that.
"He was someone that played a character very well. But I do think that incident maybe wasn’t the best for the image of the sport and showed that we’ve still got work to do," she concluded.

Horner remains one of the most successful team principals in Formula 1 history, with six Constructors’ Championships and eight Drivers’ titles to his name.
Rumours of a potential collaboration with Ferrari have picked up traction again following reports of internal turmoil at Ferrari and rumours that indicate the Italian brand's President John Elkann would want to get rid of Vasseur. However, there's very little chance of the move actually happening.
