Wolff admits Mercedes has rivals to worry about: 'They are in the title battle'

Lando Norris won the final race before the summer break at the Hungaroring, while the defending world champion was also victorious at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on Sunday.

"I see him in the championship," Mercedes CEO and team boss Wolff told GPblog, among others, when asked whether Norris is now a threat in the title battle.

According to Wolff, the McLaren driver is not the only rival Mercedes has to take into account. The Austrian continued: "Yeah, I mean, [we are] absolutely conscious of the fact that it’s not only Norris, it’s also Ferrari, even if you have a gap of 50 points to lose, that’s something you need to be worried about.

Entering the Italian Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli remains at the top of the drivers' standings. He is 59 points ahead of both his teammate George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Norris is currently fourth, sitting 83 points behind the Italian driver.

The defending world champion takes inspiration from Max Verstappen's comeback during the 2025 campaign. "Just the fact that it's possible. Just the fact to keep believing, keep working hard, keep motivating the team in all the right ways. That's the biggest thing," he explained to Sky Sports News.

Last year, the McLaren drivers were chased by the Dutchman, now Norris is on the attack. "It's kind of a similar situation to what Mercedes are in now versus where I am. So, there's not a lot, I would say, to take from it, apart from just keep believing that it's possible until it's not. And that's the attitude we're going to fight with"
