Max Verstappen had a disappointing qualifying, but Yuki Tsunoda did not make it through Q1 with Red Bull Racing. The Japanese driver didn't manage to get past the eighteenth place and appears to be facing a tough Sunday. Peter Windsor exposes the painful difference between the teammates.
Not just Verstappen complained about grip problems, Tsunoda also saw that Red Bull was significantly lacking in this area. Nevertheless, Windsor is merciless about Tsunoda. "Yuki Tsunoda, the biggest disappointment really of the entire qualifying session. I mean on this circuit, in a car that Max Verstappen is getting under 1 minute 5, Yuki Tsunoda is doing a 5.3 and not getting out of Q1."
"Absolutely terrible. And reading his remarks before the race, and I know some of these are written by PR people and probably they don't even talk to the drivers, but it was along the lines of we're getting better now, I've got lots of feel for the car, I'm looking forward to coming to a real race circuit as distinct from, you know, some of the old school tracks we've been at and I've been preparing well for this and looking good. And he doesn't get out of Q1."

The difference in driving style with Verstappen clearly visible

Verstappen prefers a front that sharply cuts in, and at Tsunoda, Windsor sees a significant difference with the Dutchman:
"One minute he's got the car oversteering and it's understeering because of the heat build-up, because of the way he drives. He's not using the front of the car anything like as well as Max Verstappen does. And I find it astonishing that he doesn't realise that quite obviously. And his engineers, obviously, I don't know. Either they've tried telling him and he doesn't believe it, or nobody understands it anyway."
