Why didn't Piastri - with the fastest lap of the race - get an extra point

Piastri's lap time was a 1:30.634 on Lap 43, a time no one would match later in the race. Yet the McLaren driver did not get an extra World Championship point for it. Indeed, the rules state that a driver does have to finish among the first 10 to qualify for that point.

It was the first time this season that no additional point was awarded for the fastest race lap. Earlier, Max Verstappen (Bahrain and Japan), Charles Leclerc (Saudi Arabia and Australia) and Fernando Alonso (China) did receive points for setting the fastest lap in the race.

Piastri eventually finished 13th at the Miami International Autodrome. The 23-year-old driver was on course for a good finish in Florida for a long time, but he had to get a new front wing after making contact with Carlos Sainz - who also ended up receiving a penalty for it - and fell far back.
