Who slept well/bad after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

It’s now been 24 hours since the hectic race ended in the streets of Baku. We take a look at how the teams and drivers will be feeling and how they can move on towards the Spanish Grand Prix in two weeks.

Who slept well?

He picked up his first point in Formula 1 after his 10th place finish. It was also the first points picked up by a New Zealand driver since Chris Amon did so in 1976! It’s been a difficult start to his F1 career having finished last in every race prior to Baku. He certainly slept with a good feeling and will have a positive bounce in his step for two weeks!
That’s twice in a row he’s beaten his team-mate, Sebastian Vettel. All with a little bit of help, but it is his 3rd podium of the year which should have been 4 had it not been for a pit-stop error. There are claims that the 38-year-old is slowing down and starting to struggle, but he can still fight with the best.
It has been well documented, the start of the season hasn’t been dominated by the Brit and he has struggled to find any sort of form or consistency. But Lewis came away from Azerbaijan as the Championship leader. It was also Hamilton’s first win since October 2017 removing a pestering monkey from his shoulder. He’d have slept really well.

So who slept badly?

This one is fairly obvious. The Red Bull boys were jostling for position throughout the whole race but it ended in tears. The highs the Red Bull team picked up in China soon came crashing down as the team lost at least 20 Championship points. Ferrari and Mercedes are now twice as far ahead in the Constructors championship. Christian Horner perhaps relived the nightmare in his sleep!
Yes, Sergio picked up some desperate points over the weekend and became the first driver outside the ‘top 3 teams’ to finish on the podium in 2018. But, all night he would have had been thinking of what could become a disaster after getting called for an investigation over the usage of DRS. Now that would have been some stress.
Valtteri Bottas
He had done all the hard work. Nailed the restart from the final safety car and looked certain to take the chequered flag. But it all went wrong for him as a puncture ended any hope of achieving success. The frustrations he’ll be going through would have made for a tough nights sleep! He will have to put this behind him going into Spain.
