Eric Boullier is hoping that the new aerodynamic package that the team are set to introduce at the Spanish Grand Prix will have a huge impact on the teams performance as they chase Red Bull and look to leave their midfield rivals behind.
McLaren has had a decent start to the 2018 season but knows that their rivals will be upping their game at Barcelona, and Boullier knows that his team will have to as well.
"There is a new direction for Barcelona, but you cannot expect us to leap ahead of everyone else," warned Boullier.
"I think 95 percent of the paddock will bring new aerodynamic packages to Barcelona, so the difference will either be the same, we lose some ground, or perhaps we gain a little," he told El Confidencial newspaper.
"It is up to us that our evolution works and lives up to our own expectations, and then to hope that the others cannot do the same."
McLaren is currently fourth in the constructor standings but are within touching distance of Red Bull.
