Whiting: Grosjean ignoring blue flags "one of the worst cases I've ever seen"

Formula One race director Charlie Whiting was not impressed by Romain Grosjean's behaviour on the track during the Singapore Grand Prix, as the Frenchman committed “one of the worst cases of ignoring blue flags I’ve seen”.

Grosjean got handed a five-second penalty plus two penalty points on his racing licence for ignoring a blue flag on Lewis Hamilton. Grosjean was in the midst of a battle of his own, as he was duelling Sergey Sirotkin of Williams.

The French veteran forgot to slow down and let Hamilton past, causing the reigning world champion to lose a lot of seconds, allowing Max Verstappen to catch up and almost overtake the race leader.

“Romain just completely forgot the golden rule of blue flags and that’s if you’re in a battle you’ve got to forget your own battle and move over,” Whiting told RaceFans.

It was probably for the best that Verstappen couldn't make a move stick on Hamilton, because if Verstappen would've overtaken him there and won, this would have been talked about for weeks, or even months. Good job he also blocked Verstappen, then.
