Mario Andretti has revealed that
Sebastian Vettel had always wanted to drive for
Ferrari even during his early days at Red Bull.
in 2015 after four successive World Championships between 2010 and 2013 and in 2019 will be joined by
Charles Leclerc with
Kimi Raikkonen leaving for
Sauber.
It hasn’t always been plain sailing for
Vettel at
Ferrari but Andretti revealed the German had always wanted to drive for the Scuderia.
"I remember in his first year with Red Bull, I asked him what were his ambitions for the future and he immediately replied: ‘Drive for Ferrari!’” Despite failing to stop
Mercedes winning the World Championship in each of his four seasons at Ferrari, Andretti believes the German is the “right man” to end
Mercedes’ and
Lewis Hamilton’s dominance.
"He is absolutely the right man for Ferrari," Andretti told Sky Italia.
"He is the right driver for the job.”
However Andretti did feel it is hard to compare the two drivers because they are in different cars: “I think it's hard to say who between Hamilton and Vettel is better because they drive different cars, but they're both good guys."
