Max Verstappen impressed during the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort during the first round of the race. The Red Bull driver managed to get past Lando Norris, then lost control of his car, but was still able to keep it on the track. Robert Doornbos analyzes this Dutchman's moment.
“Good start from Max and he immediately slips into the slipstream with Oscar (Piastri, ed.) and as a result, he locks up Norris. He has nowhere to go, he has to brake earlier because you also don't want to bump off your teammate. Oscar and Max then move to the outside. Then Max is actually on the racing line, he leaves it there and then he hits the dirt. That moment there, and that he then shoots upwards, and that he keeps it there, that is really all-in. He really takes a risk”, Doornbos started in his analysis in the Race Café of Ziggo Sport.

Doornbos: 'This was really all or nothing from Verstappen'

Doornbos was then asked if the banking helped Verstappen during the correction. “That banking definitely helped him to brake, absolutely, but he went with two wheels in the grass with oversteer. There are few drivers who can handle that. He has cold tires, he does have more grip with those red tires, but you also have to take risks with the red band otherwise you have no advantage. But this was really all or nothing.”
Verstappen was able to climb onto the second step of the podium in front of his home audience after the Dutch Grand Prix after Lando Norris saw smoke coming out of his cockpit late in the race. The McLaren driver saw his race literally go up in smoke and was forced to abandon the fight. This partly resulted in Isack Hadjar finishing in P3 and standing on the podium as well.
