Max Verstappen is a man of many talents. Not only he is a four-time world champion, but he shared he also completed shifts on power unit side of things ahead of the Monaco GP weekend!
In Monaco, the defending world champion was asked whether he could contribute to Red Bull Powertrains developing their own power units for the upcoming 2026 season, when a regulation change will take place.
"Just the last few days, I was still at the factory designing the piston. So, yeah, I think we found a good compromise. Now, I think it's going to be a rocket ship. So, we're ready!" the Dutchman joked.
"I think no one – of course, you can always be very confident in what you're doing, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. It matters what you deliver next year. So we’ll see. Time will tell," he continued on a more serious note.
Alexander Albon was also asked about his team's next engine. Williams are a customer team that buy their power units from Mercedes, therefore, the Thai-British driver explained he is in a different situation.
"I think especially if we’re not a factory team, then we're even more out of the loop than maybe a team like Red Bull would be. But at the same time, in the end, it's just more self-centred around our car. We're more focused around that – trying to deliver the best car we can. The PU is the PU. It's almost the second phase. In terms of a design point of view, yes. From what I understand, we’re pretty clued up on where the geometry of the car is going to be. But that’s about it," Verstappen's former teammate concluded at the drivers' press conference.
