A weekend to quickly forget, that's the summary of the Austrian Grand Prix from Max Verstappen's point of view. His withdrawal caused him to miss several unique records. McLaren and Ferrari both set a record in Spielberg. For Red Bull Racing, a special streak came to an end; for the first time in 77 Grands Prix, the Austrian team failed to score any points. Verstappen had to deal with a retirement after a crash with Kimi Antonelli, and Tsunoda finished last in a messy race. Thus, the team of the reigning world champion narrowly missed a special record of Ferrari. The Italian team has scored points in 81 consecutive races, putting Red Bull now just four races behind.
Verstappen's streak of consecutive point finishes came to an end at 31 races. This was the first retirement for the Dutchman since the GP of Australia in 2024. The Dutchman is now definitively out of the title race. However, he remains the most successful driver at the Red Bull Ring with five victories.
Ferrari and McLaren Break Records in Austria
Unlike Red Bull, McLaren managed to break records in Spielberg. Following Lando Norris's victory, the British team tops the list for most constructor victories in Austria. That count is now at seven, one more than Ferrari has achieved.
Both McLaren and Ferrari broke records in Austria
For the papaya-colored team, it was the hundredth time a race was won from pole position. Moreover, this was the fourth time McLaren finished first and second in an F1 season, something the team from Woking had not managed since 2007. McLaren thus achieved many special statistics last weekend.
Ferrari also had a good weekend. The Scuderia took a third and fourth place, thereby scoring good points in the championship. Charles Leclerc achieved his fifth podium in Austria, making the Red Bull Ring the most successful circuit for the Monegasque. Nowhere else has he stood on the podium so often.
Finally, some smaller milestones were also reached. For example,
Gabriel Bortoleto scored his first points of his F1 career with an eighth place. Furthermore,
Liam Lawson was very strong in Spielberg, achieving P6,
which is the best result of his career.
