After Max Verstappen was hit with a poor start again, he finished only sixth during the British Grand Prix Sprint race. The Dutchman was blunt after a disappointing first session on Saturday. While, according to the FIA, the Red Bull Ford power unit is the best on the grid, one of its weak points is race starts. Today, although the issue was not as severe as it was at the Monaco Grand Prix,
Verstappen lost multiple positions off the line after starting third on the grid. His teammate, Isack Hadjar, also lost places at the start.
During the early phase of the Sprint, Verstappen was able to battle George Russell and Charles Leclerc, but he ultimately crossed the finish line in sixth place,
collecting just three points after a promising Austrian Grand Prix last weekend.
Verstappen: 'Just too slow'
Speaking to Sky Sports after the session, the
Red Bull Racing driver was clear in his verdict. He explained:
"Just too slow."We were degging more than the cars around me and especially getting destroyed in the high-speed. Just couldn't keep with them. Then sliding more to try and keep up with them and then you deg your tyres more," the four-time world champion added.
Kimi Antonelli wins the British Grand Prix Sprint this Saturday
Kimi Antonelli won the British Grand Prix Sprint race and claimed all eight points on offer, finishing ahead of home favourites Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.
Thanks to this victory, the Mercedes youngster extended his lead in the drivers' standings to 43 points over George Russell and 47 points over Hamilton. Red Bull's Verstappen is now 103 points behind the Italian driver as well.
The Austrian outfit still has the chance to bounce back this weekend. On Saturday, on-track action will continue with Qualifying at the
Silverstone Circuit.
