Yuki Tsunoda has given the rumours of last week some extra nourishment. The Japanese driver who, as a Honda talent, has a chance to win a seat at AlphaTauri, has convincingly grabbed pole for the Belgian Grand Prix Feature Race.
In recent weeks, the name of Tsunoda has often been mentioned. Daniil Kvyat does not know what to expect at AlphaTauri and with a protégé of Honda around the corner, it is not strange to suspect that Tsunoda will take over the place of the Russian in 2021. A pole at Spa-Francorchamps will only help.

Tsunoda is fourth in the championship, but in his first year in Formula 2 and only his second year in Europe, the upward trend is clear to see. The Japanese man scored the most points in the last four races, and once again scored four points for pole. He took pole ahead of Nikita Mazepin by more than a tenth.
The other champion candidates did a lot less in the Belgian Ardennes. Championship leader Callum Ilott, for example, only finished twelfth and Christian Lundgaard finished eighteenth. In that respect, number two Robert Shwartzman did a lot better in fourth place.
