Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has unleashed a fierce counterattack against toxic online critics, dismissing bizarre conspiracy theories alleging that the Brackley-based squad is deliberately compromising George Russell in favour of rising star Kimi Antonelli.
The Austrian boss pulled no punches when addressing the online discourse, ridiculing the notion that any Formula 1 team fighting tooth and nail for vital championship honours would ever sabotage one of its own cars.
Wolff explained that claims of favouritism inside the garage completely disregard how a professional racing operation functions, particularly during a high-stakes campaign where every single point counts towards the constructors' standings.
"They're brainless. Whoever thinks that [we are favouriting Kimi Antonelli over George Russell]," an exasperated Wolff said at the Singapore GP. "I mean, it's completely nonsensical. We've had it in the past with Lewis [Hamilton] fans. I mean, I literally... I don't know what's going on... Do they think I have a button and that says, 'George, engine failure now' or disadvantage one driver against the other when we're fighting for a constructor championship?"

'I'm Satan': Wolff lashes out at trolls

The Mercedes chief reiterated that the team has never deviated from its core philosophy of parity, emphasising that both garages always receive identical machinery and equal opportunities on race weekend.
"We've always had the mindset providing everybody equal material," Wolff insisted. "But I guess, you know, this may be where social media goes today. You know, people hide behind their screens, and then they lash out. There's a lot of polarisation going on."
Rather than letting keyboard warriors derail the team's focus, Wolff revealed that he often views the over-the-top vitriol with pure amusement, pointing out just how absurd the personal attacks have become.
"Sometimes I read what people write. I find it hilarious. These people really contribute to my own entertainment when they're abusing the team or myself.... I'm Satan, I've heard!" he quipped with dry sarcasm.

However, Wolff made it clear that while he can laugh off the extreme rhetoric, his patience with bad-faith narratives has completely run out. Offering some blunt advice to those convinced of internal sabotage, the team boss suggested those fans might want to consider switching to vastly different television programming.
"Really, [I have] zero understanding and respect for people who come up with these things. Rather than watching Formula 1, they should [watch] Teletubbies or Mickey Mouse."
