Despite Red Bull’s claims, Arvid Lindblad hasn’t been ruled out as a potential replacement for Max Verstappen. According to Helmut Marko, the reality is quite the opposite — the British driver is very much being groomed for a possible Formula 1 debut.
Arvid Lindblad is only seventeen years old, but is already being prepared for Formula 1. The Brit was granted an early superlicence by the FIA, has already had multiple stints in a Red Bull F1 car, and will soon make his debut in the sport.
‘’He spent half a day in the car in Italy on Monday to prepare. He will also be in the car during FP1 at Silverstone. His mental strength and the confidence he has stand out. His Swedish-Indian mix apparently works very well for motorsport,'' Marko told Kleine Zeitung.
Thus, Marko revealed Lindblad's upcoming debut at the British Grand Prix, at his home race. There, Lindblad will make his debut in his first official practice session, although Marko did not yet reveal whether it will be for Red Bull Racing or Racing Bulls.

Who will replace Max Verstappen at Red Bull?

Still, it begs the question: why is Lindblad being fast-tracked? The Brit is only in his rookie season and currently sits third in the Formula 2 standings. Meanwhile, Red Bull already has Ayumu Iwasa lined up as a reserve driver. The team previously stated that in the event of a suspension, a Racing Bulls driver would step up to replace Verstappen at Red Bull Racing, with Iwasa filling in at Racing Bulls.
However, that Red Bull statement turns out not to be accurate: ‘’We are preparing for the moment something happens with Max Verstappen's penalty points. We have two reserve drivers: Lindblad and Iwasa. With Iwasa, the Formula 1 schedule sometimes clashes with his performances in Japan (Super Formula).’’
‘’We even had a deal with another team for some races. At one point, a driver was even registered for three teams. It's not easy to find someone who is ready for that. That's why Lindblad is now in the car.’’
Which reserve driver from another team Red Bull had wanted to call upon is not disclosed by Marko. Ferrari has Guanyu Zhou and Antonio Giovinazzi as reserve drivers, Mercedes has Valtteri Bottas, and Aston Martin has Felipe Drugovich available.
