Carlos Sainz has made it clear that he would prefer to stay with Renault past the current season. Sainz was loaned to Renault by Red Bull after the former world champions considered it unrealistic to promise Sainz a race seat with Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen at the senior team.
Sainz could be brought back however depending on where Daniel Ricciardo decides to go for 2019, with Ferrari a popular destination being touted.
The 23-year-old told Spanish newspaper El Pais that he would be happy to stay at Renault no matter what happens elsewhere.
"It would be a pleasure to stay at Renault.
"I'm happy where I am. I think this team has a lot of potential and, whatever happens, I'm very proud of how we are doing things here at Renault.
"For me it would be a pleasure to stay."
