Carlos Sainz has moved to shut down growing speculation over his future at the Williams F1 outfit with a firm statement during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.
The Spanish driver has recently been linked with a potential exit from the Grove-based team, with reports suggesting interest from several outfits currently ahead of Williams in the pecking order this season. However, speaking in Austria, Sainz made his position clear, reiterating the message he has passed on to his management regarding his long-term future.
The former Scuderia Ferrari driver, who spoke to GPblog among other outlets, detailed that he was not considering his future, highlighting his desire to turn around the current situation at Williams.
“Seriously, I'm not because I have so much work to do here at Williams right now. Over the next few races, and the amount of simulator sessions we're doing, the amount of meetings that have been held in the last few months.”

Sainz also noted how he had told his management team not to bother him about any offers from another team until at least the summer break, before reiterating his commitment to Williams.
“I've also told my team to leave me a bit on my own until the summer break, just to try and help Williams and improve the situation as much as possible. And then in the summer break, it will be obviously time to think about it, look at the options, and I think the team right now knows what my intentions and my priorities are, which would be to continue in this team, in this project. I believe in the long-term part of the project and the long-term vision, and right now we have, as I said, a lot of work to do.”

Sainz doubles down on Williams’ continuity

When pressed further about the available options, amid talks of an exit from Williams being a possibility, Sainz again noted how he has so far continued to avoid the noise that comes with Formula 1’s “silly season”, before circling back to the fact that he remains focused on Williams and would prefer to wait until at least the summer break before assessing his future.

“I haven't asked because, as I told my management, I want to try and have as little noise as possible in my head when looking at options. I'm pretty sure there will be conversations and information being shared and discussed around the paddock, like there always are at this stage of the year. But on my side, I've told them that I prefer to stay away from it until the summer break and help the team move forward as fast as possible, because my ideal plan and my order of priorities is to stay and continue in the long term,” Sainz concluded.
The Williams F1 Team has so far endured a challenging start to the current campaign, with the Grove outfit recording just 11 points through the first seven races of the season. The results mark a far departure from last year, when Sainz himself delivered two podium finishes for the team, among other impressive showings.
