George Russell has revealed that Mercedes won't see any major upgrades before the summer break as he issued a warning to F1 rivals. Rival teams including Red Bull and Ferrari have shown improvements over recent races with their upgrade packages, with Lewis Hamilton winning in Barcelona and Max Verstappen challenging for the victory in Austria. Mercedes last had a major upgrade package in Montreal and have brought in some smaller changes to their car since.
Russell has expressed surprise at the number of upgrades teams are bringing and believes that they could pay the price for this later in the season. He told the media including GPblog on Thursday: "The car has been extremely consistent every single race so far.
"We have been surprised at how many upgrades some teams are bringing, but maybe they'll pay the price towards the end of the season. And, you know, we know when we're planning our upgrades, it's not this side of the break. And then we can just review during the summer break if you pull the trigger slightly early on those upgrades or not. So it's just a balancing act, but as Toto said, we have been a bit surprised with how many that some other teams have brought."
Russell reveals bizarre childhood dream ahead of British GP
While speaking to the media on Thursday, Russell revealed that he did not dream of winning the British Grand Prix as a child as it seemed too far-fetched. Instead, he revealed that his
childhood dream was getting a tractor.
He said: "Yeah. I've got to be honest, when I was a kid, I guess it was so far-fetched. I'm not even sure it was a dream because it was just not even possible to comprehend. I remember dreaming of having a Massey Ferguson tractor when I was a kid. Because that was what was achievable if I succeeded, you know. So I will get a Massey Ferguson tractor one day, but it [winning Silverstone] was so far out of reach that it wasn't even possible to dream that could be a reality."
