Russell 'past the point of disappointment' after latest cruel setback

The Mercedes driver's championship hopes continue to slip away after Kimi Antonelli's 3rd place finish extended the gap to his teammate to 59 points going into the summer break.

Russell lined up on the grid in sixth, one place above Antonelli, after the Italian's three-place grid penalty in qualifying. However, he was out of contention before the first turn, as he dropped to the back of the field following his issues at the start, finishing in seventh place.

Speaking to the media including GPblog after the race, Russell said: "I'm sort of past the point of disappointment now because if I'm just continuing to be disappointed with everything that's goes on, I'll just be disappointed every day of the week. So I've got to stay positive.

His latest setback at the Hungaroring is the latest piece of misfortune to hit Russell this season. The Brit has two DNFs to his name in Canada and Belgium, while a penalty in Monaco dropped him out of the points.

Russell highlighted that Piastri's DNF in Hungary shows that he is not the only one to suffer bad luck, but believes that he has suffered more issues this season than any other driver.
