Hungarian GP ends in heartbreak for Piastri after late retirement

The No. 81 driver was forced to retire on lap 56, ending McLaren's hopes of securing a one-two finish. At the time of Piastri's retirement, teammate Lando Norris was leading the race with a four-second advantage over Max Verstappen.

By lap 39, Piastri's race had already begun to unravel. While attempting to lap Carlos Sainz, the Australian became involved in a costly misunderstanding with the Williams driver, who failed to move aside in time. The contact cost Piastri several crucial seconds and handed Norris the opportunity to complete his pit stop and emerge in the race lead, shifting the momentum firmly in his teammate's favour.
