Mercedes is hopeful after the Dutch Grand Prix. The German team fought Red Bull Racing for victory for a long time, but had to give up in the end. George Russell thinks his team still has some big steps to make, he told Sky Sports and others in the press conference.
In Zandvoort, Russell fell just short of making things difficult for Max Verstappen. However, with a second place finish ahead of Charles Leclerc, Mercedes once again proved that they are improving their performance.
"Every car has its strengths and weaknesses. Even Red Bull," notes Russell. "Look at the substantial performance differences between Spa and Zandvoort. But when they are at their worse, they still have a car capable of winning. It's more noticeable with us, because it's the difference between fighting for victories of 5th and 6th."
"Ultimately, if we find more base performance we'd be in a Red Bull scenario. I don't think it's down to the car concept. We are learning why we were more competitive in Zandvoort compared to Belgium."

Besides Russell Hamilton also still has a lot of faith in his team. The seven-times world champion says he is still hopeful of taking a victory this season, which would set a new record.
