Due to the contract extension for Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes, the door for George Russell to Mercedes is now officially closed. The Brit was already confirmed as a driver for Williams in 2021, but there still seemed to be a small chance for the Mercedes protégé.
''I'm not looking forward, but I'm mainly working on my current performance. I just try to look at it day by day and I want to get as much out of my car as possible. I feel the maximum support from Mercedes and everything is still going according to plan since I signed there in 2017," said Russell at the press conference for the second Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Still, the Brit is ambitious. Russell is driving for Williams for the second season and after his title in Formula 2 he hasn't yet managed to grab a single point in Formula 1, where rivals Alexander Albon and Lando Norris have scored enough points. In fact, Norris was even on the podium once.
''Of course I would be happy with such an opportunity, that goes for everyone. Of course I want to drive for a dominant team, but above all I want to measure myself against the best drivers in Formula 1. However, for now I focus on the now and so I'm doing my job at Williams'', says Russell at the press conference according to Formule1.nl.
