David Coulthard argues that should Max Verstappen decide to leave Red Bull Racing, Ferrari would be a better fit for the four-time world champion than Mercedes. Amid his criticism of the current
Formula 1 regulations, Verstappen has previously said that he might exit the series completely. In his latest update about his future, the Dutchman
said in Miami:
"Nothing new, to be honest, on that side. I mean, in those weeks, I’ve also been busy with other things. But I still have time, and I’m taking my time."During the April break,
GPblog also reported that staying with Red Bull also appears to be an option that clearly ranks below several other possibilities for the Dutchman.
Coulthard sees Ferrari as a fitting destination for Verstappen
According to the former McLaren and Red Bull Racing driver, Verstappen would be more comfortable at Ferrari. He said in the Up to Speed podcast: "I think that Max actually, as a shoo-in, fits better to the Ferrari world than the Mercedes world."
Coulthard explained that Verstappen's approach to his activities outside of Formula 1 would line up well with the Italian squad. He added: "I know that they have this good relationship and I know that he’s racing a Mercedes in the GT3 events that he does. But the freedom to be Max, I think would be a more comfortable fit at Ferrari because you would just turn up, drive quickly, presumably win the races and then head home."
