Ricciardo reveals he had wing damage from the first lap onwards

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo has revealed that his lack of pace compared to his teammate Max Verstappen was because of some wing damage he suffered in the first lap, which caused him to lose pace.
Ricciardo and Verstappen started in P18 and P19 respectively, but the latter was the one who cut through the field like a hot knife through butter. Verstappen was up to P5 after just eight laps, while Ricciardo was just in P13 at that point.
While many assumed that this was simply because the Aussie struggled a bit more to get past the traffic, he explains it's actually the damaged wing that ruined things for him.
He got a new nose when he stopped, which cost him another eight seconds, causing him to finish almost a minute behind his Dutchman teammate. Verstappen was happy with that, but the 29-year-old isn't too bothered by it.
"I think the pace with the damage was not bad," he explained on F1 Paddock Pass.

"It was the outside of turn eight, dirty marbles, went off, lost some positions.
"I tried to take a slipstream of a McLaren, but when I pulled out of that slipstream there was debris in front of me and I had no time to react and I did the damage.
"So from the first lap we had a bit of a limp.
"I think regardless as a team fifth and sixth was the best."
The debris from Ricciardo's wing hit Pierre Gasly on the visor, which gave the Frenchman a big scare but no injuries.
