Nico Hulkenberg found the wall at Turn 4, and this has put Mercedes rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli in much trouble. The German Sauber driver's crash had not been the only one. Previously Alexander Albon had clipped the inside wall at Turn 1 ending his session on the spot.
Hulkenberg, after the session had been restarted at around the 11 minute mark, only survived the Baku streets for five minutes. He then crashed at Turn 4, which did not cause his demise, but it did cost him a front wing, and Antonelli much needed reprieve.
Antonelli in trouble
It had not been the best weekend for Mercedes, with George Russell at risk in P9 in the final moments of the session.
However, the Italian had two scruffy laps that saw him finish as high as P12 with his second attempt. Nevertheless, Antonelli had gone over the track limits which caused his best tour until then to be eliminated from the records.
