Two weeks after Christian Horner was pushed aside by Red Bull Racing, the shock among part of the staff is still great. No one - unlike the Dutch media including GPblog - saw coming that the team boss might have to clear the way. There is still griving over the dismissal. It is no secret that part of the staff in Milton Keynes did not want Horner to leave at all. They were loyal to the Brit.
But there was also a faction that has celebrated now that Horner has left after eighteen months of turmoil. Helmut Marko is probably the most delighted, as the relationship with Horner had become quite difficult.
The best team boss ever?
On social media, staff members respond to their leader's forced departure, and it is not without emotion."In my opinion, he was the best TP [team principal] the sport has ever seen," said a factory worker in Milton Keynes about Horner on LinkedIn, as quoted by PlanetF1.
"Despite his perhaps arrogant persona in front of the camera, he was a humble and genuine man and someone that all of us looked up to."
"As of now, it feels like the heart and soul have been ripped out of the team. It hasn’t, but that’s what the look on a lot of people’s faces would have you think."
Not everyone is happy that Christian Horner has left
'Red Bull has lost its identity'
This employee even goes so far as to portray Horner as the personification of the success of Red Bull Racing, and not, for example, Max Verstappen - the driver who has brought the team the world titles for the past four years. "We’ll recover from this, as we have other problems, and I’m sure we’ll bounce back just as strongly as we have before. No team is built on just one person; it takes everyone."
"But there’s no doubt that right now, it feels like we’ve lost our leader and, with that, our identity," said the employee.
