Red Bull will have their own power unit for the first time in their 2026 challengers. Although the Austrian team have a very strong partner in Ford, Christian Horner seems not yet so sure of the potential success of their own power unit.
Over the last few seasons, the Red Bull Racing team has been supported by Honda, but by 2026 it is up to the team themselves to develop a completely new power unit, when the new regulation changes come into play.
The Milton Keynes-based team is working in collaboration with Ford, which manufacturer are making a return to the top class of motorsport after two decades.
You would expect a team boss to start such a big and important project to have some optimism. But Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, in conversation with the German media, remained notably cautious.

Horner remains realistic about Red Bull's big task

"It would be arrogant of us to think that we could immediately surpass our competitors," said the Briton began talking to Sport Bild.
"Ferrari have been active in this field for 75 years, Mercedes for about 25 years."
"Audi and Honda have also built some of the world's best engines in different branches of motorsport. We need to earn our stripes first. Next year is a fresh start," he explained as on-track action gets underway today at the his team's home circuit, the Red Bull Ring.
