While Max Verstappen got closer to a fifth title in Las Vegas, a fellow Red Bull driver, Ayumu Iwasa, could already celebrate a drivers' title himself this weekend.
Iwasa completed a stunning comeback to claim this year's Super Formula title in Japan.
Entering the final race, the Red Bull and
Racing Bulls test driver was fourth in the standings, trailing leader Sho Tsuboi by 12.5 points.
Iwasa won the final race at the Suzuka Circuit and thanks to Tsuboi finishing only eighth, he was crowned champion.
The Japanese driver has made two free practice appearances so far in
F1 this year, driving the RB21 in Bahrain, and the Racing Bulls car around a month ago in Mexico City.

Verstappen also gets ever closer to a fifth Formula 1 title
After the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Dutch driver was initially 42 points behind championship leader Lando Norris in the standings when the two drivers crossed the finish line.
A couple of hours later, however, Verstappen found the gap to be only 24 points. That is because
both McLaren drivers were disqualified for skid wear issues in 'Sin City.'
| Standings | Drivers | Points |
| P1 | Lando Norris | 390 |
| P2 | Oscar Piastri | 366 |
| P3 | Max Verstappen | 366 |
