Red Bull Racing's RB19 is at its minimum weight. This is good news, as the RB18 was up to 10 kilos overweight at some races in 2022. Team boss Christian Horner does not want to reveal the secret of the RB19's slimming method. After all, the competition is watching.
That Red Bull is already at the target weight is positive, the lighter car is already faster than the RB18 on a weight basis. It does mean Red Bull will have to find different development methods in 2023 than in 2022. In that year, it was relatively easy for Red Bull to gain time. Every new and lighter component benefited the team.

Horner keeps secret to himself

The team may not lose any more weight in 2023, so it has to look in a different direction in terms of speed gains. It is a luxury problem, because ultimately every team wants to be as light as possible. At the press conference in Bahrain, Horner did not reveal his secret to GPBlog.com and others: "I am not going to tell that to the guys next to me! [Andrea Stella & Frédéric Vasseur] I think the weight loss is very impressive."
Horner continued: "The RB18 was a great car, but regulation changes over the winter throw in some curveballs so you never quite know if we've done enough. It's only when you see the other cars and the lap times come in that you start to form a picture"
